I came across this title "NPP Deputy Organizer Beaten Mercilessly At Ablekuma North Rerun [Video]" on Opera News today and I was wondering what exactly is going on in Ghana's political space. The video attached was shocking and troubling, especially as we move forward in our democratic journey. Below is a summary and commentary on what I saw and read:

Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, the Deputy National Organiser of the NPP, was brutally assaulted by unknown individuals during the parliamentary election rerun at the Odorkor Methodist 1 Polling Station in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Videos circulating online show the attack happening near police officers, who stood by without immediate intervention. As Chris tried to flee, he was struck from behind, fell, and was mobbed by more attackers.

He struggled to get up several times but was continuously beaten until some police officers and bystanders eventually intervened and shielded him.

This incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many Ghanaians demanding justice and calling on the Ghana Police Service to investigate and apprehend the attackers.

Earlier that same day, MP Hawa Koomson and some journalists were also reportedly attacked during the elections.

Many speculate that the attackers may be affiliated with the NDC, though no arrests have been confirmed.

My Thoughts:

It's disheartening to witness this level of violence in what should be a peaceful democratic process. Whether it’s NPP or NDC supporters behind the attack, this kind of political intolerance only damages the credibility of our elections. The police must act swiftly and fairly. We need to restore faith in Ghana’s democracy.
