The Obuasi High Court dismissed the election petition filed by former Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa, Kobina Tahiru Hammond, challenging the 2024 parliamentary victory of Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.

On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the court, presided over by Justice Kwabena Twumasi, fined Hammond ¢60,000 for what it described as a waste of its time.

Hammond lost the Adansi Asokwa parliamentary seat to Dorani by 954 votes but proceeded to court to contest the outcome. The case took an unexpected turn when Hammond failed to appear in court on three separate occasions before the ruling was delivered.

Speaking to journalists after the judgment, Richard Andy, lawyer for the incumbent MP, said Hammond’s petition lacked merit. “K. T. Hammond had no legal grounds for his petition,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the former legislator expressed disappointment with his constituents over his electoral defeat. In an interview with Adom TV, Hammond accused voters of demanding money before casting their ballots.

“The day came for us to vote, and people were just standing there, saying they would not vote because they wanted money. I was like, look at your Astroturf, your schools, your water, your roads, and you still refused to vote,” he lamented.

He further alleged that some residents deceived him during his campaign tours. “In some places, they said, ‘We will vote for you as a thank you.’ But in the end, they did not vote,” he added bitterly.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Dorani, secured victory with 14,229 valid votes, while Hammond polled 13,275.
