Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), has taken a major step in its Africa Expansion agenda by initiating a strategic partnership with President Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi of Zanzibar to overhaul the island’s waste management systems and promote environmental sustainability.
The high-level engagement, described as “fruitful and forward-looking,” is part of Zoomlion’s vision to bring cutting-edge sanitation technologies to progressive African nations.
“We had a very fruitful meeting with His Excellency President Mwinyi, where we discussed transformative approaches to waste management that are both practical and forward-looking,” said Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of JGC.
Dr. Agyepong emphasized that waste should be seen not only as a problem but as an opportunity—for innovation, job creation, and sustainable development. He reaffirmed that the partnership aligns with both Zoomlion’s mission and Zanzibar’s goal of creating a cleaner, greener future.
Key areas discussed included:
• Deployment of waste sorting and recycling technologies
• Establishment of engineered landfill systems
• Implementation of community-based waste collection models to drive local employment
President Mwinyi welcomed the collaboration, citing Zoomlion’s track record in Ghana and across Africa as evidence of the company’s ability to deliver on large-scale sanitation and environmental projects.
“Zanzibar is looking to enhance both its environmental credentials and its appeal as a top tourism destination. Zoomlion’s expertise is well-aligned with our ambitions,” President Mwinyi reportedly said.
Zoomlion pledged to support the initiative with technical know-how, investment, and training programmes that will empower local institutions and residents alike.
This collaboration is being viewed as a milestone in public-private partnerships for sustainable urban development in Africa, with potential ripple effects across the continent.
