Former Deputy Communications Minister Victoria Hamah has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider calls for the dismissal of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, following a controversial dollar donation to former fetish priestess-turned-evangelist, Nana Agradaa.

A video circulating on social media shows Gyamfi handing over bundles of U.S. dollars to Nana Agradaa at a public event—an act that triggered a wave of criticism from civil society groups and political commentators who called it inappropriate and insensitive.

Though Gyamfi has since issued a public apology, acknowledging the lapse in judgment and expressing remorse, many continue to demand his removal from office.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 14, Victoria Hamah acknowledged the public's disappointment but urged the President to adopt a measured approach. She advocated for a formal reprimand instead of dismissal, arguing that such a decision would better serve the principles of justice, accountability, and democratic growth.

“A formal reprimand, rather than exclusion from office, represents the most constitutionally sound and developmentally judicious response,” Hamah stated.

She added that this stance does not diminish the seriousness of the situation but instead promotes mentorship and institutional maturity.

The presidency has not yet issued an official response regarding Gyamfi’s fate.
