A tragic incident at Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, has left a second-year student blind after she was reportedly shot in the face by a classmate who brought a firearm to school.
The victim, Suzie Adwoa Pinamang, recounted the traumatic event during an interview with De God Son TV on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. According to her, the shooting occurred during break time on Friday, April 4, inside their classroom.
“My classmate was holding the gun in class, but I didn’t pay attention to it,” she said. “During break, I had laid my head on the desk. When I lifted my head for a moment, the gun suddenly went off. I started bleeding from my face and ran out, covering it with my hands.”
Pinamang was initially rushed to the SDA Hospital in Bantama and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where she underwent emergency surgery to remove bullet fragments. Despite the medical intervention, doctors confirmed she had lost her sight.
“I was with my housemistress, the PTA chairman, and my parents when the doctors broke the news. I am devastated,” she said.
The suspected shooter, identified as Bernard Amoabeng, also a second-year student, allegedly brought the firearm to school, sparking curiosity and debate among students. In an attempt to prove the weapon was real, Amoabeng reportedly fired it—hitting Pinamang and injuring another student.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, which has sparked national outrage and raised concerns about security measures in schools.
The school, police, and education authorities have yet to issue a detailed public statement, but calls for justice and tighter safety protocols are growing louder.
