The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, has vowed to apprehend the military personnel allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of civilians at Nyinahin in the Ashanti Region.

The incident, which claimed the life of one civilian and left three others injured, has sparked public outrage and demands for swift justice.

During a visit to the community on Friday, April 25, DCOP Teye-Cudjoe condemned the shooting as a criminal act and pledged an impartial investigation to ensure accountability.

He stressed that the actions of one soldier should not tarnish the reputation of the entire Ghana Armed Forces, and reassured residents of Nyinahin that the police are committed to uncovering the truth and restoring public confidence.

“We will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice. Apart from ensuring that justice is served, with the collaboration of the military, we will make sure we bring the culprit to book,” DCOP Teye-Cudjoe said. “This is an individual’s criminal act, and we will fish him out.”

The confrontation reportedly erupted between military personnel and a group of mourners, raising renewed concerns about the excessive use of force by uniformed officers.

The Chief of Nyinahin, Nana Amapene Boateng Twum II, also called on the police to ensure justice is served.

“We are pleading with the police to look into this issue. The culprit must be punished. We are all under the law; no one is above it. Even if there was provocation, you are not supposed to shoot a person,” he appealed.

The police have launched a full investigation into the tragedy.
