The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is set to roll out a new weekly payment system to ensure timely reimbursements for healthcare providers under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This development follows the government's decision to lift the cap on the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), a policy shift announced by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson in the 2025 budget presentation.

Key Updates:
Weekly Payments: Healthcare providers will now receive reimbursements every week for vetted claims.

Government Support: The change aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to strengthening the NHIS.

Provider Accountability: The NHIA has warned against unauthorized charges on patients and emphasized that claims must reflect actual services rendered.

Transparency Measures: Payment records will be published online, and facility inspections will be intensified to ensure compliance.

NHIA Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe assured that this system will improve cash flow for healthcare facilities, ensuring better service delivery for NHIS beneficiaries.
