A group of miners traveling along the Kotokuom–Nyinahin road in the Atwima Mponua District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region were attacked by suspected armed robbers on the night of Tuesday, April 15, 2025.
The robbery, which occurred around 9:00 p.m., left one miner critically injured and others robbed of cash and mobile phones. The attackers are believed to be part of a criminal network operating in the area.
Among the victims was 26-year-old Michael Larry, who suffered a gunshot wound to his leg. He was initially treated at the Nkawie Community Hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for advanced medical care.
Residents Demand Greater Security
Speaking to Citi News, Michael’s brother, Stanley Obeng Larry, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern over the growing insecurity in the district.
Local residents are now calling on law enforcement authorities to intensify police patrols along the Kotokuom–Nyinahin road, a known route for miners and traders. They believe such increased presence is crucial to combatting the rising wave of armed robbery attacks in the area.
“The frequency of these attacks is worrying. We need stronger security to protect lives and livelihoods,” one resident stated.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but community leaders are hopeful that swift police action will help restore calm and deter further attacks.
