Bawku, April 10, 2025 – Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno has led a high-level team of operations, investigations, and intelligence officers to Bawku in the Upper East Region, following a violent clash between some youth and the Police on Wednesday, April 9.
The disturbance resulted in the tragic death of one person, identified as Fuseini Iddrisu, while five others, including a Police officer and an Immigration officer, sustained gunshot injuries and are currently receiving medical care.
In addition to the casualties, significant damage was recorded, including the burning of two police vehicles, a rented police accommodation in Binduri, and homes of some police officers.
The IGP’s visit aims to gather firsthand intelligence on the situation and strengthen security cooperation between the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces in efforts to stabilize Bawku and nearby communities.
The Police Service, in a statement, assured the public of enhanced security measures and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement.
“Anyone found involved in acts of violence will face the full rigours of the law,” the statement emphasized.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order nationwide and is working with stakeholders toward a long-term resolution of tensions in Bawku.
