Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that GH¢8,256,000.00 was deposited into an Ezwich account held in the name of Osei-Assibey Antwi, former Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), during the 2022/2023 service year.
The disclosure was made at a press briefing in Accra on Friday, June 13, as part of updates from the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) taskforce’s ongoing investigation into suspected financial malfeasance within the NSA.
“Investigations showed that he personally received these funds. During a search at his residence, the corresponding Ezwich card was retrieved,” Dr. Ayine stated.
Details of the Alleged Misappropriation
The funds, according to preliminary findings, were channelled into Ezwich account number 1177042059, directly linked to Mr. Antwi. Authorities say this raises red flags about possible embezzlement of public funds intended for national service operations.
Broader Anti-Corruption Effort
The ORAL taskforce, spearheaded by the Ministry of Justice, is tasked with tracing and recovering misappropriated state resources across various sectors. The case involving Mr. Antwi is now a key focus of the taskforce, with further actions expected based on the outcomes of forensic audits and legal reviews.
