Ho, Volta Region – April 17, 2025 — The Asogli State Council has officially destooled Togbe Afiatsoa III, the Mankrado of Ho Bankoe, following what the Council described as persistent misconduct, insubordination, and actions that brought the Asogli State into disrepute.

The announcement was made at a solemn traditional ceremony held at the Asogli State Palace in Ho, where rituals including libation pouring and the slaughtering of a ram were performed to signify the destoolment in accordance with Ewe customs.

Council’s Justification for the Destoolment
A statement issued by Stephen Tetteh, Secretary of the Asogli State Council, noted that the decision came after extensive consultations and unanimous consent from the Elders, Chiefs, and Kingmakers.

“Over an extended period, he has exhibited gross disregard for Traditional Authority, deliberately denigrated the revered Agbogbome Stool and persistently brought the name of Asogli into disrepute,” the statement read.

Mr. Tetteh emphasized that Togbe Afiatsoa III is no longer recognized in any traditional capacity within the Asogli State structure.

Social Media Conduct and Failed Attempts at Reform
The Council further criticized the former Mankrado’s use of social media and other public platforms to spread misinformation, despite repeated efforts to reconcile and reform his conduct.

“Sadly, he chose to spurn all such opportunities and instead resorted to the reckless use of social media... to spread falsehoods, cast aspersions and peddle misinformation aimed at undermining the image, integrity and cohesion of the traditional leadership of both Ho and the larger Asogli State,” the Council stated.

A Precedent for Traditional Accountability
The destoolment sends a strong message about the Asogli State’s zero-tolerance policy on conduct deemed disruptive to the unity and dignity of traditional governance.

As of today, Togbe Afiatsoa III ceases to hold any authority or recognition as Mankrado of Ho Bankoe.
