Ghanaian a cappella group Alabaster Box is suing rapper Medikal for allegedly sampling their hit song “Akwaaba” in his new track “Welcome to Africa” without permission. They claim the first 10 seconds of Medikal’s song closely mirror their original, and that the use of the word “Akwaaba” further shows clear reference to their work.

The group is demanding:

Immediate removal of the song from all platforms

Cessation of all marketing, sales, and performances

Full disclosure of revenue and individuals involved

Compensation and legal damages

Alabaster Box has threatened to escalate the issue to court if their demands are not met. As of now, Medikal has not responded publicly.
