Renowned football administrator Abdul Salam Yakubu has called for the return of Andre Ayew to the Black Stars ahead of the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show on March 7, 2025, Yakubu stressed that Ayew’s leadership and experience would be crucial for Ghana’s campaign.
Ayew’s Recent Form and Black Stars Absence
The 34-year-old forward, currently playing for Le Havre in the French Ligue 1, has scored four goals in 17 appearances, proving his continued impact at the highest level.
Despite his longstanding commitment to the national team, Ayew has been absent from the Black Stars since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), following the reappointment of Otto Addo as head coach in March 2024.
Ghana’s Upcoming Fixtures
The Black Stars, currently second in Group I with nine points, will:
Host Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21, at 19:00 GMT.
Face Madagascar at the Grand Stade d’Al Hoceima, Morocco, on Monday, March 24.
Yakubu believes Ayew’s experience, goal-scoring ability, and leadership could be decisive in helping Ghana secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
