Abuja, Nigeria — Organisers of the Papyrus Global Mayors Conference and Awards (PAGMACA) 2026 have announced Mojeed Olujinmi Alabi as a keynote speaker for the upcoming event.

The conference, scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 1, 2026, in Abuja, is expected to bring together policymakers, mayors, and development stakeholders from over 20 countries.

This year’s edition will be held on the theme, “Strengthening Local Governance for Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable African Communities.”

The inclusion of Prof. Alabi is seen as a strategic move by organisers to deepen discussions on governance reform and institutional accountability across Africa.

At a time when many African countries are calling for improved transparency and better service delivery, his participation is expected to contribute significantly to conversations around strengthening democratic systems.

Prof. Alabi, who currently serves as Provost of the College of Law at Osun State University, is widely recognised for his expertise in constitutional law, legislative practice, and public policy.

He also has extensive political experience, having served as Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly.

In addition, he was a member of Nigeria’s House of Representatives during the 8th National Assembly, where he contributed to legislative processes aimed at improving governance standards.

His combined experience in academia and public service positions him as a key voice on issues of governance and policy reform.

At the conference, Prof. Alabi is expected to speak on the relationship between legislative oversight and grassroots governance.

His presentation will focus on how democratic institutions can be strengthened to better serve local communities.

He is also expected to address issues of accountability and public trust, which remain key challenges across many African countries.

Organisers believe his insights will provide practical solutions for improving governance systems at the local level.

Speaking on the announcement, Doofan Damsa-Justin, Managing Director of The Papyrus Global, said the selection of experienced leaders is crucial to achieving the conference’s objectives.

He noted that individuals with both academic and political experience are better equipped to contribute to meaningful policy discussions.

He added that PAGMACA 2026 aims to promote collaboration and the exchange of ideas among leaders from different parts of the world.

The event is expected to host over 60 mayors of African descent from Africa, the United States, Asia, and Europe.

Participants will engage in panel discussions, workshops, and networking sessions focused on governance, development, and innovation.

The conference will also highlight successful governance models and best practices that can be adopted across different regions.

Youth participation is another key component of the event, as organisers seek to involve young leaders in shaping the future of governance in Africa.

With the confirmation of Prof. Alabi, PAGMACA 2026 continues to attract influential voices committed to improving leadership and accountability systems.

The event will be a major platform for dialogue and policy engagement on governance across the continent.

As preparations continue, we're focused on Abuja, where stakeholders will come together to discuss solutions for building more inclusive and sustainable communities in Africa.
