Renowned Nigerian human rights lawyer, Rommy Mom, has been confirmed as a panelist at the upcoming Papyrus Global Mayors Conference and Awards 2026, scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria.

The conference, which is expected to attract participants from over 20 African countries, including Ghana, will focus on strengthening local governance systems and promoting sustainable community development across the continent.

Themed “Strengthening Local Governance for Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable African Communities,” the event will bring together mayors, policymakers, and business leaders to deliberate on key governance, security, and development challenges facing Africa.

Dr. Mom, who serves as President of Lawyers Alert, is expected to speak on “Community Policing & Sustainable Partnerships.” His participation is seen as significant given his extensive experience in human rights advocacy and community-based policing initiatives.

Over the years, he has contributed to strengthening collaboration between communities and law enforcement agencies in Nigeria, working closely with institutions such as the Police Service Commission to promote accountability and improved policing systems.

For Ghana, discussions around community policing and local governance remain highly relevant, particularly as authorities continue to explore ways to enhance trust between citizens and security agencies.

Insights from PAGMACA 2026 are expected to contribute to ongoing conversations in Ghana around decentralisation, community engagement, and sustainable security frameworks at the local government level.

Experts believe that shared experiences from countries like Nigeria could help inform policies that strengthen Ghana’s governance structures and promote inclusive development.

Organisers of the event noted that Dr. Mom’s selection reflects his practical grassroots experience and his ability to connect legal frameworks with real-life security challenges.

Managing Director of The Papyrus Global, Doofan Damsa-Justin, stated that his contribution is expected to enrich discussions at the conference.

He emphasised that sustainable security across Africa can only be achieved through trust, inclusion, and structured collaboration between citizens and institutions.

The event will also host more than 30 mayors and local business executives, alongside government officials responsible for foreign affairs, trade, and intergovernmental relations.

Participants will engage in high-level discussions aimed at strengthening governance systems, promoting peace, and enhancing stability across African communities.

The conference will be a strategic platform for dialogue and collaboration, with a strong focus on practical, actionable solutions to governance and security challenges across the continent.
