Ghanaian comedienne and media personality Valentina Nana Agyeiwaa, widely known as Afia Schwarzenegger, has taken legal steps against the Wikimedia Foundation over what she describes as a damaging case of mistaken identity online.

Through her legal representatives, Nkrabeah & Associates, the outspoken entertainer has issued a formal demand notice to the global non-profit organisation, raising concerns about an image allegedly linked to her name on online platforms associated with Wikimedia.

The letter, addressed to the Editor-in-Chief of the Wikimedia Foundation in the United States, states that when Afia Schwarzenegger’s name is searched, an image of a convicted individual identified as Mona Faiz Montrage reportedly appears, creating confusion about her identity.

Her lawyers argue that the development is not only misleading but defamatory, as it wrongly associates their client with criminality. According to the legal team, the situation has already had financial implications, including the loss of endorsement opportunities.

They further indicated that Afia Schwarzenegger’s brand and public image are central to her career, and any false representation could significantly damage her reputation both locally and internationally.

The demand notice is therefore calling on the Wikimedia Foundation to take immediate steps to remove the said image and rectify any misleading links connected to her name.

The lawyers also want assurances that mechanisms will be put in place to prevent similar occurrences in the future, stressing that failure to act could result in further legal action.
