Vincent Ekow Assafuah, the Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, has strongly urged President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider his decision to cancel appointments and recruitments made following last year’s elections. According to reports from Ghana Web, the directive—communicated through Chief of Staff Julius Debrah—has resulted in the termination of jobs for numerous public sector workers, including nurses and other recruits from the previous administration.
Speaking on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Assafuah voiced deep concern about the devastating impact this move is having on the country's young men and women. “His Excellency the President, respectfully, on behalf of our youth, please put your empathy cap on,” he pleaded, emphasizing that the livelihoods and future of many young professionals are at risk.
Assafuah argued that canceling these appointments only worsens an already challenging situation for many citizens. He further revealed that he, alongside Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organizer of the NPP, has taken the matter to the Supreme Court to challenge the constitutionality of the president’s directive.
In his impassioned call, Assafuah urged the president to prioritize the welfare of the people over political maneuvering. “Our young men and women are the backbone of this country—their toils and dreams cannot be sacrificed,” he declared, emphasizing that a compassionate approach is crucial for Ghana’s future.
