According to the report by Moern Ghana, in Ho, Volta Region a well-known businessman, Mr. Richard Kpormegbe, has been arrested in connection with a large cache of stolen electrical equipment belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Volta River Authority (VRA).

The arrest, which took place on Sunday morning, has sent shockwaves through the community as Mr. Kpormegbe is widely regarded as a respected entrepreneur in the Ho Municipality.

According to police sources, officers acting on a tip-off raided a warehouse owned by Mr. Kpormegbe in the early hours of the morning.

The operation, led by the Volta Regional Police Command, uncovered large quantities of electrical transformers, cables, conductors, meters, and other essential components suspected to have been stolen from ECG and VRA installations across the region.

Speaking to the press, Superintendent Kwesi Asare, the lead investigator, stated,

“For several months now, ECG and VRA have been reporting frequent theft of electrical installations, leading to power disruptions in parts of the Volta Region. After an extensive investigation, we narrowed down our leads to this warehouse. The evidence we have gathered so far strongly links the suspect to these thefts.”

Following the discovery, Mr. Kpormegbe was immediately taken into police custody, where he is currently assisting with investigations.

Authorities believe he may be part of a larger syndicate involved in the theft and illegal sale of electrical materials, which has significantly impacted power distribution in the area.

“We are determined to dismantle this network,” Superintendent Asare continued.

“These stolen items are critical for the smooth operation of power supply, and their disappearance has caused undue hardship for many residents and businesses. We are working closely with ECG and VRA to trace the origins of all recovered materials.”

Residents of Ho have expressed shock and disappointment over the businessman’s alleged involvement in the crime. Many have described Mr. Kpormegbe as a generous philanthropist who has contributed to several community projects.

“It’s hard to believe he could be involved in something like this,” remarked Akosua Mensah, a local shop owner.

“If this is true, then he has betrayed the trust of the people.”

Meanwhile, ECG and VRA officials have commended the police for their swift action, stating that the arrest is a significant step toward curbing the rising incidents of equipment theft.

“This should serve as a warning to those who engage in such illegal activities,” said Mr. Emmanuel Dogbe, a senior ECG official.

“We will continue to collaborate with security agencies to protect our assets.”

Mr. Kpormegbe is expected to be arraigned before the Ho Circuit Court next week, where he will face multiple charges, including theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.
