On Wednesday, the 22nd of January 2025, the minority leader Afenyo Markin posed a question to George Opare Addo, Minister- Designated for Youth development and empowerment that has since sparked massive reactions. Apparently Afenyo Markin asked George Opare Addo if he was a member of the Freemason society.
Hon. George's affirmation of being a freemason also triggered a lot of reactions from social media users. See some reactions below;
Apparently, it seems George Opare Addo is not the only famous personality who is a freemason. According to a report by Ghanaweb, below are some prominent personalities who are freemasons;
John Agyekum Kufuor
In a conversation with Bola Ray sometime back, former President John Agyekum Kufuor shared his views on Freemasonry, describing it as a moral development platform rather than a secret society, as some might think. He also mentioned that he holds the title of Senior Grand Warden of the United Grand Lodge of England and revealed that he is not the first member of his family to be involved in Freemasonry.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II
During the celebration of his 25th anniversary on the Asante throne, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II acknowledged his connection to the Grand Lodge of Ghana.
Afenyo Markin
In an interview with Citi TV in February 2024, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu and Majority Leader, expressed that he identifies as both a Freemason and a Roman Catholic. He stated, "I am a Freemason and a Catholic... I value friendship and believe in keeping my promises to my brothers."
Henry Martey Newman
Henry Martey Newman served as the chief of staff under former President John Atta Mills in 2009 and continued in his role even after the president's passing in 2012. He eventually stepped down when President John Dramani Mahama took office. Henry Newman is also a member of Freemason.
