When a Swedru Senior High School (SWESCO) student discovered a handbag under his desk and gave it back to the school administration, he garnered national notoriety for his integrity.

Jeffrey, who attends the school as a day student, showed up for class on a Wednesday morning when the event happened.

Speaking about the incident, Jeffrey recalled: "I came to class and saw this purse under my table."

I passed the money to a prefect in my class as soon as I opened it and saw it, telling him to take it to a teacher.

Jeffery was publicly praised for his honesty during the school's morning assembly by the headmistress, Mrs. Golda Esi Andam, who said that his acts reflected the school's essential principles.

This is the kind of virtue we want to inculcate in each and every one of you: honesty and responsibility," she stated.

Jeffrey could have easily taken the money and run away, but he made the moral decision.

With 20 Ghana cedis from her own pocket, the headmistress gave each student a token of thanks and urged the other students to follow like.

Additionally, she used the occasion to warn students about being irresponsible with their personal property, warning them that they might not always come across people as reliable as the two who gave the purse back.

In response to a question about why he did not keep the money for himself, Jeffrey said, "It is not mine."

Although God operates in strange ways, I don't believe that blessings come from holding someone else's money. It's preferable to track down the true owner.

Living with his mother, Aunt Dinah, and attending Ark of Salvation Ministries, Jeffrey revealed that his decision was impacted by his Christian background. He clarified that it's about doing what is right rather than what is convenient.

Swedru Senior High School, located in Agona Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana, was established in 1959 and has built a reputation as one of the country’s most prominent secondary schools.

With a focus on academic excellence and character development, the school has consistently produced students who embody the institution’s core values of discipline and moral uprightness.

This latest display of integrity underscores the positive impact of the school’s efforts to nurture responsible citizens
