The Divisional Police Command of Ga West, Amasaman, in the Greater Accra Region, under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Susana Adjei, has undertaken a major clean-up exercise aimed at promoting environmental hygiene and public health in the municipality.
The exercise, which brought together officers, community members, and municipal officials, was part of efforts to reinforce the importance of sanitation in maintaining law and order, as well as preventing the spread of diseases.
Addressing the participants during the event, ACP Susana Adjei emphasized the age-old adage, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” urging all residents to adopt proper hygiene practices as a shared civic responsibility. According to her, the clean-up activity was not just symbolic but a clear demonstration of the Ghana Police Service's commitment to ensuring a clean and safe environment.
“This exercise shows that the police are not only here to enforce the law but also to lead by example in keeping our communities clean and livable,” she stated.

ACP Adjei also highlighted the evolving nature of modern policing, especially under the community policing model, which requires officers to live and operate within the communities they serve. She noted that most personnel are now stationed outside traditional barracks, making mobility a significant challenge.

In this regard, she appealed to the government and relevant stakeholders to provide a dedicated bus or means of transport to enhance the movement of officers involved in community policing duties.
Mr. Isaac Kwakye, the Ga West Municipal Coordinating Director, who was present at the event, commended the police command for their initiative and active role in community development. He assured the command of the assembly's continuous support in advancing the cause of public health and environmental sanitation.
“The assembly recognizes the importance of such collaborations and is ever ready to support initiatives that promote a healthy and safe municipality,” Mr. Kwakye remarked.
The clean-up exercise is expected to be replicated in other parts of the municipality, with calls for increased community involvement and inter-agency cooperation in addressing sanitation challenges.
