The Abuakwa South Municipal branch of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the Eastern Region, under the leadership of Mr. Akins Ofori, took swift and decisive action on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, to clear the Accra-Kumasi highway of trees brought down by heavy rainfall. This prompt response, following a rapid complaint, effectively restored clear visibility and averted potential accidents on the critical stretch from Asiakwa Junction to Apedwa Junction.
The incident occurred after a period of intense rainfall on Wednesday, which caused several large trees to collapse and obstruct significant portions of the highway within the Abuakwa South Municipality. The dangerous situation posed an immediate threat to motorists, drastically reducing visibility and creating perilous driving conditions.
The alarm was raised by Eric Obeng Boateng , a Ghanaweb journalist, who was traversing the route at the time and witnessed the dangerous obstructions. His rapid complaint served as the crucial catalyst for NADMO's quick intervention.

Upon receiving the alert, Mr. Akins Ofori, the NADMO Director for Abuakwa South, mobilized his team without delay. Personnel, equipped with necessary tools, were promptly dispatched to the affected areas between Asiakwa Junction and Apedwa Junction. Their diligent efforts ensured the swift removal of the large tree branches and debris, making the road safe for vehicular movement once more.

"Our mandate is to ensure the safety of our citizens, especially during adverse weather conditions," stated Mr. Akins Ofori. "Upon receiving the report from Mr. Kakape, our teams were deployed immediately. We are pleased to have cleared the path swiftly, preventing what could have been a very serious incident and ensuring continuous flow of traffic."

The timely intervention by the Abuakwa South NADMO team proved critical. By clearing the obstructions, the team not only restored smooth traffic flow but, more importantly, significantly enhanced the view for drivers, thereby preventing potential collisions and safeguarding the lives of countless commuters using the vital national highway.
Eric Obeng Boateng , the journalist who reported the obstruction, also expressed his relief: "The road was virtually impassable and extremely dangerous. I commend NADMO for their swift and professional response. Their quick action undoubtedly saved lives and prevented accidents today. It's heartening to see such a rapid and effective reaction to a public safety concern."
This incident underscores the vital role of proactive disaster management and the importance of alert citizens in reporting hazards. The collaborative effort between concerned individuals and emergency services like NADMO continues to be crucial in maintaining safety on Ghana's road networks.
