After Nigeria's Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Ghanaian social media star Kwadwo Sheldon took a jab at the country.

Sheldon mockingly asked how a nation plagued by recurrent power outages could be expected to play on the biggest football stage.

You want to attend the World Cup even if you don't have electricity. He made a joke, "How would your citizens even watch you?" which caused conflicting responses on social media.

The already intense rivalry between Ghanaian and Nigerian football fans has been heightened by his remarks, which many Nigerians have dismissed as lighthearted.

After the Super Eagles lost to DR Congo in the Africa Play-off finals, Nigeria's exclusion from the 2026 World Cup has become a topic of discussion throughout the continent.

On Sunday, November 16, at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, DR Congo overcame a goal deficit to defeat Nigeria 4-3 on penalties in a fiercely contested African play-off final, earning Africa's only spot in the intercontinental play-offs scheduled for March of next year.
