Richard Cobbinah, better known as "Shaka Zulu" from Ghanaian music group 4×4's famous 2009 song video Fresh One, has been arrested once more, this time in relation to purported land guard actions in Accra.
Cobbinah and five other suspects were apprehended on January 10, 2026, after a distress call was received at approximately 12:30 pm, according to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
The individuals are under investigation for allegedly participating in land guard activities and possessing firearms illegally, according to the police.
Cobbinah's run-in with the authorities began over ten years ago. He was arrested for robbery in 2010, not long after the Fresh One music video made him famous across the country.
He was found guilty of stealing in 2013 and given a 15-year prison sentence. But after serving a shortened sentence, he was freed in 2024.
Many Ghanaians expressed regret that the former video sensation seemed to have returned to criminal behavior after regaining his freedom in response to news of his most recent arrest, which sparked intense social media reactions.
While some users bemoaned what they called a "wasted second chance," others demanded more robust assistance with rehabilitation for ex-offenders.
In some areas of Accra and other cities, land guarding—the employment of armed organizations to illegally take, defend, or enforce claims to contested lands—remains a significant security concern. In recent years, the practice has increased police crackdowns and resulted in multiple violent encounters.
Cobbinah and the other accused are still being held while investigations are conducted, according to the police.
