Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a human rights campaigner and attorney, has denounced what he sees as an abuse of power in the way Wendell Nana Boateng's case has been handled, pointing out that despite completing his bail requirements days ago, Wendell is still being held by the police.

On November 26, 2025, Wendell was taken into custody for allegedly accusing the Western and Ashanti regional ministers of engaging in illicit mining (galamsey). He was given bail, but only if he could produce a government employee who made at least GH₵3,000 net as a guarantee.

Wendell fulfilled all bail requirements on Monday, according to Barker-Vormawor, but he is still being held. According to reports, police have blamed the delay on the CID officer handling the case being "away on course."

Barker-Vormawor expressed his frustration with the situation and the abuse of power, stating, "I want to be Regional Minister when I grow up." Who said "power is not sweet"? "

His remarks have sparked public debate regarding possible political meddling in law enforcement as well as delays in the bail procedure. To date, the police have not responded to these concerns in public.
