The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has detained Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., in connection with an ongoing investigation into his assets and tax liabilities.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the award-winning musician voluntarily showed up at EOCO headquarters in Accra, according to a statement released by his management via his publicist Sammy Flex.

According to the statement, he was with his attorney, Cephas Biyuo, to help investigators with questions about the acquisition of a high-end car.

While urging the SM Family and well-wishers to maintain composure and refrain from speculating, the statement also reassured fans and the public that his legal team is completely involved and actively working with the authorities to address this situation. Additionally, management mentioned that Thursday morning will be the next day for talks with EOCO.

This comes weeks after a high-profile confiscation of Shatta Wale's 2019 Lamborghini Urus made headlines. The luxurious car was seized from his home in Accra's Trassaco Valley Phase 1 earlier this month by EOCO, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to authorities, the vehicle was among the assets linked to convicted Ghanaian scammer Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is presently incarcerated in the United States for 86 months for a $4.7 million money-laundering operation.
According to EOCO, the Lamborghini was discovered during a global asset recovery operation following Amuah's discovery of using American shell corporations to launder stolen money. American authorities requested that the seizure be made.

However, Shatta Wale has strongly denied any misconduct. He maintains that he paid US $150,000 for the vehicle legally and was not aware of any fraudulent connections to its prior owner. The singer further charged that the leadership of EOCO utilized oppressive methods during the operation.
