Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah "Lilwin" has disclosed a blatant effort to bribe him into abandoning his planned film about Burkina Faso's transitional leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. In a video released on social media, Lilwin described how a guy claiming to represent Burkinabé interests arrived on set with an envelope containing $20,000 and instructions to halt work immediately.
Rather than pocketing the money, Lilwin claims he returned it immediately. "They wanted to buy our silence," he said, "but this story is bigger than any sum of money." The proposed movie, which is still in its early phases, will look at Captain Traoré's journey from grassroots soldier to emblem of youthful resistance—an arc that Lilwin hopes will resonate well beyond Burkina Faso.
Lilwin rejected what he called an act of intimidation, emphasizing his strong love for the Burkinabe people and the revolutionary ideas Traoré represents. "This film honors their struggle," he told me. "It's not about politics or profit—it's about celebrating African leadership and inspiring a new generation."
The proposed payout has sparked passionate debate online about artistic freedom and the role of power in storytelling. Instead of deterring him, the experience has strengthened Lilwin's resolve. He insists that the movie will proceed on its own terms, as a tribute to Captain Traoré's vision and a testament to the filmmaker's reluctance to sacrifice his artistic integrity.
