Born on June 10, 1946, Grace Omaboe—better known by her stage name, Maame Dokono—is a legendary figure in Ghanaian culture. In addition to receiving multiple honors, this talented actress, singer, TV host, novelist (The Unforgettable), and former politician has forged a deep emotional bond with Ghanaians that has defined her extraordinary career. Maame Dokono's narrative and performances gave astonishment and joy to many Ghanaian children growing up. She became a Saturday afternoon favorite as the adored presenter of By The Fireside, a children's program supported by the 31st December Movement. Children were drawn into captivating folktales by her energetic "pempran!" introduction, which sparked their imaginations and strengthened their appreciation of Ghanaian customs.
Her well-received performances on Akan Drama with the Obra Drama Group made Sundays equally memorable. The opening notes of the song "Obra" by Nana Kwame Ampadu set the tone for Maame Dokono's next standout performance. She was a cornerstone of Ghanaian television and influenced a generation's cultural awareness with her genuineness and depth of feeling. She is still serving her community in her senior years. She is committed to developing the next generation of leaders through her Graceful Grace School in Accra. Her persistent support of women's and children's rights and constant efforts to improve their wellbeing demonstrate a strong and sustained dedication to the welfare of society.
