Haruna Iddrisu, the minister of education, has denounced security forces' use of bail as a form of punishment. He says it's time for the nation's courts and security services to respect the accused's rights. In his opinion, Ghana's constitution is not being upheld in this way and should never be promoted. When he revealed this, Haruna Iddrisu was giving a speech at Dr. Seth Mahama's burial. "In Ghana today, we have witnessed abuses by the police, courts, and EOCO, as well as the denial of bail and the use of bail as a form of punishment for those who are charged. That is not law; rather, it is common understanding and common law that does not deny an accused person bail or demand that they pay an excessive amount as a form of punishment.
