The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has stated that a National Security operation at his home was an attempt to unjustly incriminate him for political reasons. Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, stated during an interview with Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen show that the early-morning search on Friday, May 23, was conducted without a warrant and with the goal of strewing incriminating papers at his Kumasi house. He reported that about 9:00 a.m., roughly 20 armed agents showed there in five cars and made an attempt to break in. Wontumi claimed that even though he was ill at the time, he confronted the officers at the gate and refused them entry because they had not shown a valid search warrant.
"Anything could have been planted — drugs, gold, or something else — just to tarnish my image if they had entered," he claimed, characterizing the operation as a conscious attempt to harm his reputation. He also denounced the use of force, claiming that considering his prominent position, such measures were superfluous. I'm not a difficult person to locate. I will attend if invited. "I follow court orders," he declared. Wontumi disclosed that police had already gotten in touch with him before to the event and that he will answer the summons on Monday, May 26. He questioned the raid's strategy and timing, arguing that it was a component of a larger political harassment operation.
