King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has demanded that chiefs suspected of selling land near rivers and other flood-prone locations be detained and prosecuted. He made the call on Thursday, May 28, while touring villages affected by flooding after the Weija Dam spilled, submerging a number of houses and businesses and forcing locals to evacuate their possessions. Speaking to reporters, the Ga Mantse claimed that certain traditional chiefs are allowing private development on areas designated as green belts and waterways, which exacerbates the ongoing flooding issue. He emphasized that such behavior must not be tolerated. He declared, "Chiefs who are selling lands in flood-prone areas and places that are supposed to remain green areas must be held accountable."
