The current Member of Parliament (MP) for Hohoe, John Peter Amewu, has unexpectedly lost his seat in the parliamentary elections held in December 2024. A major upset in the political scene occurred when a fresh candidate from the constituency defeated Amewu, who had held the seat for multiple terms.
Given his position as the only member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stronghold, Amewu's defeat is unexpected. His defeat represents the NPP's unanticipated inability to win any parliamentary seats in the area. This outcome highlights the growing power of new political forces and indicates a significant shift in the preferences of voters in Hohoe and the Volta region.
