One member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) task team was shot on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, during an anti-galamsey operation in the Bono Region. The incident happened in the Dormaa Central Municipality along the Subinkurom-Kyeremasu segment. According to a statement released by the Lands Ministry on Tuesday, January 20, NAIMOS said that armed attackers concealed in the bushes opened fire upon spotting the team, resulting in a gunfight. After being struck in the thigh, one NAIMOS officer was transported right away to St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, where he is still undergoing treatment and doing well. One of the assailants, Abuu Ibrahim, was shot during the altercation and was later declared dead upon arriving at the same hospital.
