In the Bawku West District's Zebilla Constituency, a group of disgruntled youth from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) locked down the Youth Employment Agency's (YEA) district office Monday morning in protest of what they say are attempts to revoke a valid political appointment. The protest is in response to the alleged meddling by party leaders, including Ebenezer Ndebilla Alumire, Zebilla's Member of Parliament, in John Akutam Akparibilla's appointment as YEA District Director. According to reports, YEA Acting CEO Malik Basintale appointed Akparibilla, who is currently the NDC Constituency Youth Organizer. The young man presented a full-color copy of his appointment letter during the demonstration and asked to be free to take up his position without hindrance.
The organization proclaimed, "John Akutam Akparibilla must continue to serve as the district's youth boss, as his appointor Malik Basintale has done." According to YEA sources, Akparibilla's letter of appointment has been sent back to the agency's Bolgatanga regional office, which raises the possibility that the appointment would be revoked. The young people demonstrating cautioned that any such action might cause a great deal of unhappiness among grassroots participants. They warned that the party would lose support in the district if John Akutam Akparibilla was not kept on as the district director of youth employment. MP Reacts MP Ebenezer Ndebilla Alumire denied any role in attempting to revoke the appointment during a phone conversation. He said, "I don't know if John Akutam Akparibilla has been appointed as the YEA boss, and if he has, I won't be against it.
