The late Ghanaian highlife musician Daddy Lumba's brother, Nana Okyere Darko, has made a number of statements regarding the music icon's tense relationship with his family in the years preceding his passing.

Despite Daddy Lumba's popularity and notoriety, Nana Okyere disclosed in an interview with Foreigner Multimedia that he was irritable and gradually drifted away from his family. He claimed that none of the musician's Accra-based acquaintances knew him or any of their extended family, which he claims is evidence of how disengaged the celebrity has become.


"It was obvious that he had cut off the rest of us, even though we were once close," he remarked.
His late brother's failure to return to their roots, especially their hometown of Mampong Nsuta Ekuo, was condemned by Nana Okyere. According to reports, Daddy Lumba has never provided funding for any initiative in the area, even though he is known to own a number of opulent residences in Accra and beyond.

He said that the family was not given any advance notice of the Aben Wo Ha hitmaker's death, which occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2025. He claimed that the late artist had been living apart from the rest of the family in a luxurious Accra home with his wife, Priscilla Ofori Atta, and their little children.


Since then, the head of the family has been officially informed of Daddy Lumba's passing.

Speaking about the late singer's childhood, Nana Okyere disclosed that he was not raised in their community and only came to visit when their father retired. He even said that in another town, the two had fought over a traditional chieftaincy role.

A goat that Daddy Lumba once purchased to ask an older man he had a disagreement with for forgiveness was one of the stranger tales told. Tensions between Lumba and his extended family grew worse after the animal passed away before it could be delivered, according to Nana Okyere.
