Award-winning artist Black Sherif has helped families who are having a hard time taking their newborns home by covering the medical expenses of a number of impoverished moms at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
The artist, Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, paid up mothers' unpaid medical bills totaling GH¢50,696 and donated necessities to mothers in the Nkrumah and Yebuah Wards.
The Mohammed Ismail Sharrif Foundation, a foundation the singer founded to support underprivileged populations, helped to make the effort possible.The foundation's work supports larger initiatives to improve maternity healthcare and reduce maternal and neonatal avoidable deaths.
According to hospital staff, the gesture assisted moms who were unable to pay for their postpartum maternity expenditures, some of whom had to stay longer than anticipated because of their financial situation.
