In the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was chosen as the party's flagbearer.With 110,643 votes, or 56.48 percent, the former vice president won handily, setting himself up to lead the party in the upcoming general elections.Dr. Bryan Acheampong finished third with 36,303 votes, or 18.53 percent, while Kennedy Agyapong came in second with 46,554 votes, or 23.76 percent.Following them were Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth place with 402 votes, or 0.21 percent, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes, or 1.02 percent.More than 211,000 delegates nationwide participated in the primaries, casting ballots at 333 polling places spread among all 275 constituencies.To guarantee an open and reliable procedure, voting was carried out under strict security and closely observed by party authorities.
