At a departed colleague's funeral, a group of galamseyers—illegal miners—perform a fictitious mining ceremony in a distressing video that has gone viral on social media.

The viral video showed the buddies, dressed in galamsey clothing, mimicking the "dig and wash" method commonly employed in illicit gold mining by dousing the deceased with water.

The strange ritual is thought to be their way of honoring their deceased comrade, a galamseyer, one last time.
Witnesses stated that the group wanted their colleague to go through the mining process "one last time" before being buried.

Since then, the video has caused a huge internet response, with many social media users denouncing and characterizing the conduct as impolite and culturally incorrect.

A number of users have also voiced their displeasure with the deceased's relatives for permitting such a spectacle to occur during the burial ceremonies.
