Demurrage charges totaling a startling GHS 1.5 billion had been amassed on the uncleared containers, which contained essential commodities acquired during the previous administration.
The issue exposes serious shortcomings in interagency cooperation and resource management, which has left the country with a heavy financial burden. Hon. Jinapor conveyed profound worry over the issue, calling it intolerable and promising the Ministry's dedication to enhancing operational effectiveness and accountability. He emphasized that clearing the containers right now will prevent more financial losses and make it easier to carry out important energy projects that will benefit Ghanaians. The Minister emphasized the necessity of effective management of public resources to further the nation's developmental goals while assuring the public that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
