Three people have been taken into custody by Ashanti Region police after they stopped a commercial bus that was carrying 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, according to a senior police officer on Tuesday. The ammo was found during a search of a Grandbird bus at a police checkpoint, according to Ashanti South Police Commander DCOP Joseph Nyaaba. According to authorities, the car's driver was taken into custody at the scene. During the operation, officers also recovered a pair of boots, a crash helmet, and two bulletproof vests. According to police, a third suspect—a resident of Walewale in the North East Region—was subsequently taken into custody and is thought to be the intended recipient of the ammunition.
