AICO1 Ahmed Abdul Samad, an immigration officer, has been detained by the Upper East Regional Police Command on suspicion of transporting 2,600 live AK-47 rounds that were found in the Ashanti Region. The suspect, a native of Nalerigu, is based at the Ghana Immigration Service's Paga Sector Command, according to police sources. AICO1 Ahmed Abdul Samad denied knowing about the munitions during questioning, but he did reveal that he was moved to the Paga Sector Command in June 2025 from his position as a dispatch rider at the Tema Regional Immigration Headquarters.
He clarified that he had left behind an old black long boot and his body armor plate during his move. He allegedly asked Isaac, another Immigration official working at the Service's headquarters in Accra, to send the things to him on December 26, 2025. According to police sources, Isaac bundled the things along with a disco bulb, an electric diffuser, and a ballistic helmet before sending them on an OA Bus registered GT 5771-18. However, 2,600 live AK-47 rounds and a suitcase concealed under the driver's seat that contained two bulletproof plates, a black crushed helmet, and a pair of long boots were found by police during a stop and search operation at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier in the Ashanti Region.
