June 22, 2025, Accra — The youngest daughter of the late former president of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings, Amina Rawlings, made a rare and poignant public appearance at her father's 78th birthday celebration, marking a meaningful reunion. Family members, political elites, traditional elders, and followers of one of Ghana's most powerful leaders gathered for the homage, which was held at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headquarters on Adama Avenue.
Despite keeping a quiet profile, Amina, a University of Dundee graduate and successful petroleum lawyer, joined her brother Kimathi and other family members in celebrating their father's accomplishments. It has been stated that their mother, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, was not present.
Honoring the Legacy of a Leader
Prominent NDC figures like General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey and Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia attended the occasion, both of whom reflected on Rawlings's timeless principles as the party's father, leader, and revolutionary. Rawlings, Kwetey said in his remarks, "understood the soul of the nation and stood for its renewal."
Family Cohesion Despite Public Feelings
Amina and Kimathi smiled as they received dignitaries and greeted traditional rulers, capturing moments of warmth in the event's videos and photos. Admiration erupted on social media, with one spectator posting:
In addition to honoring Ghana's late leader, the occasion marked the Rawlings family's rare public show of solidarity.
