On Saturday, October 17, 2026, Ghana Skate took its first step in a journey years in the making. The federation's grassroots blueprint came to life with the introduction of skateboarding and inline skating at Accra Academy, marking the start of a movement to bring skating sports into schools across the country.

The turnout said it all. The entire school came out in full force, filling the grounds with energy and excitement. President Johnson Kwaku Gameli Kportufe led the session alongside Zone One Vice President Reginald Quartey and Skateboarding Technical Commission Chairman Joshua Ganyobi, bringing boards and blades to a campus buzzing with anticipation. Between 30 and 40 students said they had skated before and jumped straight back in, eager to sharpen their skills, while many others fell in love with the sport for the very first time, wobbling, laughing, and cheering each other on.

The PE teachers watched with visible pride, delighted to see their students embrace something so new.

This is grassroots development in its purest form: not a plan on paper, but students on boards, discovering a sport for the first time. With skateboarding now part of the Olympic program, every child who steps onto a board stands at the start of a path that could one day carry Ghana's colors onto the world stage.

Ghana Skate extends its heartfelt gratitude to the leadership of Accra Academy for their warm welcome and support in bringing this vision to life. It is through partnerships like this that grassroots sport can truly take root.

Accra Academy was just the beginning. Ghana Skate's vision is for this story to repeat itself in schools across every region, building a nationwide foundation one campus, one student, one board at a time.
