Ghana’s U19 men’s cricket team began its ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 2 campaign in style, defeating Sierra Leone by 130 runs at RP-Kigali Oval on the opening day of the tournament.
Batting first, Ghana posted a commanding total of 265 for 10 in 49 overs, laying a strong platform for their bowlers to work with. In reply, Sierra Leone were bowled out for 135 in 43 overs, unable to match Ghana’s total as the innings unraveled under sustained pressure.
Stanley Carson was the standout performer with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul that tore through Sierra Leone’s batting line-up and earned him the Player of the Match award.
The comprehensive win gives Ghana a strong start to their qualification bid as they look to build momentum heading into their next fixture against Nigeria on Monday.
