Fraizer Ofori Panin, personal bodyguard to former President Akufo-Addo, is demanding an apology and retraction from the Daily Democrat newspaper over an article he claims defamed him by linking him to illegal mining, commonly known as "galamsey."

Ofori Panin's lawyers, Zoe, Akyea & Co, sent a letter to the newspaper on May 29, 2025, asserting that the March 3, 2025 publication, captioned "Akufo-Addo's Bodyguards, Forestry Officer Accused of Galamsay," fell short of professional standards by publishing "mere allegations of a defamatory nature."

The letter states that the Daily Democrat has 14 days to issue an unqualified apology and retraction with the same front-page prominence as the original article.
