The Chief Executive Officer of She Helping Hand, Lady Consuella Kabutey-Ongor, has extended warm congratulations to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, following her appointment as Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), describing the achievement as a remarkable milestone for women in leadership and academia.

In a congratulatory message, Lady Consuella said Professor Amfo's elevation to one of the highest leadership positions within the global higher education community demonstrates the transformative impact women can make when given the opportunity to lead.

According to her, the appointment is not only a recognition of Professor Amfo's exceptional leadership and academic accomplishments but also a powerful statement about the growing influence of women in decision-making spaces traditionally dominated by men.

"Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo's appointment is a proud moment for Ghana, for Africa and for women across the world. Her achievement serves as a model worth emulating and demonstrates that women have the capacity, vision and competence to excel at the highest levels of leadership," Lady Consuella stated.

She noted that Professor Amfo's new role provides a unique opportunity to showcase to the international community the positive influence women bring to leadership, policy development, research and institutional transformation.

Lady Consuella further emphasized that the appointment should inspire governments, educational institutions, development partners and civil society organisations to invest more deliberately in nurturing and promoting women into leadership positions.

She observed that although significant progress has been made in advancing gender equality, women continue to face barriers in accessing top leadership roles across many sectors.

"Visible female leaders such as Professor Amfo inspire confidence in young girls and women who aspire to make meaningful contributions to society. Their achievements remind us that leadership is defined by competence, integrity and impact, not gender," she added.

The She Helping Hand CEO also described Professor Amfo's appointment as a source of hope and inspiration for young women pursuing careers in education, research, governance and public service.

According to her, the recognition bestowed on the University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor reinforces the importance of creating inclusive systems that allow talented women to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

Lady Consuella urged young women across Ghana and Africa to view Professor Amfo's journey as evidence that excellence, perseverance and dedication can open doors to opportunities on the global stage.

She further called on institutions to move beyond symbolic commitments to gender equality and adopt practical measures that support women's advancement into leadership and decision-making positions.

For many advocates of women's empowerment, Professor Amfo's appointment represents more than an individual accomplishment. It is a testament to the growing recognition of African women as influential leaders capable of shaping global conversations and driving positive change.

A Victory for Women's Leadership

Lady Consuella Kabutey-Ongor noted that Professor Amfo's appointment comes at a critical time when the world is increasingly recognizing the importance of diverse and inclusive leadership in addressing complex global challenges.

She expressed confidence that under Professor Amfo's stewardship, the Worldwide Universities Network will continue to strengthen international research collaboration and deliver innovative solutions that benefit communities around the world.

"As we celebrate this outstanding achievement, we must also renew our commitment to creating opportunities for more women to rise, lead and contribute to national and global development. Professor Amfo has shown what is possible, and her success will continue to inspire generations to come," she said.

The appointment of Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo as Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network has been widely welcomed within academic and advocacy circles, with many describing it as a significant milestone for Ghana, African higher education and the global movement for women's leadership and empowerment.
