The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto, has paid a courtesy call on the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Denis Aheto, at his office, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Japan and the University.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Japanese Embassy in Ghana to reaffirm its commitment to deepening academic and development cooperation with UCC.
Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Yoshimoto highlighted several ongoing and planned projects being implemented by the Japanese government at the University. These include the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) and the Japan Advanced Integrated Sediment Management in West Africa Project, both of which focus on addressing critical environmental and coastal challenges in the sub-region.
According to the Ambassador, the initiatives reflect Japan’s support for research, capacity building, and sustainable development in Africa, particularly in the areas of climate resilience, coastal management, and environmental sustainability.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Denis Aheto, welcomed the Ambassador and expressed appreciation for Japan’s continued partnership with UCC. He noted that the collaboration has contributed significantly to the University’s research output and its role in providing practical solutions to national and regional development challenges.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between the Japanese government and the University of Cape Coast in research, innovation, and human capacity development.
