Massive cleaning and renovation works have commenced at the Elmina Esuekyir branch of GN Bank following the recent Court of Appeal ruling ordering the restoration of the bank’s operating licence.
The development has sparked excitement among residents and supporters of the bank, many of whom see the move as a sign of renewed hope and a possible return of operations at the branch.
Workers were seen undertaking clean-up exercises and refurbishment activities at the premises shortly after the landmark court decision that overturned the 2019 revocation of GN Bank’s licence by the Bank of Ghana.
Residents in the area say the ongoing renovation has renewed confidence in the bank and raised expectations of economic activity and employment opportunities returning to the community.
The Court of Appeal in Accra recently ruled that the revocation of the licence of GN Savings and Loans, formerly GN Bank, was unfair and unreasonable, directing the Bank of Ghana to restore the licence.
The ruling has since triggered celebrations in Elmina and other communities where the bank previously operated.
