The Northern Regional Police Command has successfully apprehended Lukman Karim, a farmer and suspected Indian hemp supplier, in a daring operation in Diare, a suburb of Tamale. The arrest, carried out by officers from the Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) on Friday, March 13, 2026, was the culmination of meticulous intelligence gathering and strategic planning.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command, Karim was allegedly involved in the cultivation and supply of Indian hemp to various markets within the Tamale Metropolis.

"At approximately 1730 hours, our intelligence team converged on the suspect's residence in Diare, where he was taken into custody," ASP Niendow stated in a release.

A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of two and a half large sacks of soya beans suspected to be concealing substantial quantities of Indian hemp.

Notably, Karim attempted to forestall his arrest by offering a bribe of GH¢20,000.00 to the officers, which was resolutely rejected.

During questioning, Karim implicated one Alhaji Moro as an accomplice in the alleged narcotics trade.

The police are currently working tirelessly to apprehend Moro and dismantle the suspected drug supply network.

The suspect and seized exhibits have been handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further investigation and possible prosecution.
