The Northern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has launched a decisive strike against drug peddlers, arresting 10 suspects in a special anti-drug operation conducted in parts of the Tamale metropolis. The operation, carried out on March 13, 2026, by the Regional Special Operations Team, targeted areas identified as hotspots for narcotics trafficking.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Alhassan Luckman Niendow, the Public Relations Officer of the Northern Police Command, the suspects were apprehended in suburbs including Gurugu, Gumani, Kanvilli, and Gbela.
"The team arrested 10 individuals suspected of involvement in drug peddling activities in these areas," ASP Niendow stated during a press briefing. The suspects include Hamed Salim, 22; Imoro Rafiu, 20; Hamed Abdul Hakim, 27; Mohammed Kamaldeen, 28; Jamila Abdullah, 20; Kwame Joseph, 32; Kawara Francis, 50; Apeuri Kawara, 40; Abubakari, 56; and Adam Abdul Razak, 32.
Some of the suspects were found in possession of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, while others were carrying quantities of tramadol believed to be intended to sneak to the market for sale. The operation also resulted in the impounding of three motorbikes suspected to have been used in drug peddling activities.
ASP Niendow stressed that, the Police's inflexible commitment to sustained intelligence-led operations, stating,
"We remain resolute in our efforts to combat the sale and distribution of illicit drugs and maintain law and order in the region."
The suspects and exhibits are currently in police custody, pending further investigation and possible prosecution.
